Unveiling the Quality Behind Our Jewellery Craftsmanship: What is the quality of the materials you use?

At Holloway Diamonds, we take immense pride in the quality of materials we utilize to create our exquisite jewellery pieces. Here’s a closer look at the materials we use and why they set us apart:

  1. Platinum vs. White Gold:

While platinum is the primary metal used in most of our engagement rings, we recognize that white gold can offer distinct advantages, particularly for finer bands. White 18k gold is harder to bend than platinum. For this reason, we often incorporate white gold for bands, while still utilizing platinum for settings like claws or prongs. Platinum’s superior long wearing and gem holding characteristics, along with its better whiteness, ensure the secure and radiant display of diamonds.

Another factor is the cost difference between platinum and white gold. Historically platinum cost a lot more than gold, but global insecurity has led investors to drive up the price of gold, quadrupling in 20 years, whereas platinum costs about the same now as then. Platinum cost less than gold, however we use 95% pure platinum compared to 75% pure gold in 18K (18/24=75%) and pPlatinum weighs quite a bit more than gold, and is harder to work with. The end result is platinum jewellery costs close to the same as 18K gold. So platinum as a superior jewellery metal makes a lot of sense.

  1. Durability of Platinum:

One of the standout features of platinum is its remarkable durability. Unlike other metals, platinum is resistant to abrasion and wear, ensuring that your jewellery maintains its luster and integrity for years to come.

  1. Diamond Standards:
  • Our commitment to quality extends to the diamonds we use in our jewellery pieces. We adhere to strict standards, with a minimum colour grade of H, surpassing the industry benchmark set by renowned international brands. One of the best known stoops down to J! Additionally, our minimum clarity is SI2, although the majority of our diamonds exceed this standard, with VS2 as our most common clarity.
  • All diamonds we sell pass the Ideal-Scope, ASET and HCA (Holloway Cut Adviser) tests. These tools, developed and invented by our founder, enable us to select only the best cut diamonds with exceptional sparkle.
  1. Emphasis on Diamond Quality:

While some retailers may offer SI2 diamonds as budget-friendly options, we prioritize transparency and consumer education. We avoid using SI2 diamonds that exhibit visible inclusions or hazy dull milky appearance, ensuring that our customers receive diamonds of exceptional quality and beauty.

  1. Attention to Detail:

Our dedication to craftsmanship is evident in the finer details of our jewellery pieces. From the sturdy butterflies used on earrings to the service of custom cutting additional grooves in earring posts for a secure fit, we go above and beyond to ensure both style and functionality.

  1. Consideration for Chain Strength:

When it comes to chains, we opt for white gold over platinum for very fine chains, prioritizing strength and durability. While platinum offers undeniable elegance, white gold provides the necessary strength for delicate chain designs.

At Holloway Diamonds, quality is not just a standard – it’s a commitment. From the choice of materials to the meticulous craftsmanship, every aspect of our jewellery creation process reflects our dedication to excellence. When you choose Holloway Diamonds, you can trust that you’re investing in jewellery heirlooms of unparalleled quality and beauty.
